Stump that Guards the Burrows
Burrowclan ♡ Warrior ♡ 28m ♡ Dog ♡ Bisexual
APPEARANCE
Summary: A tall, long-tailed tod born without his left rear leg.
Purchases: Disability Purchase
Strengths: fighting++, stealth, agility
Weaknesses: swimming, fishing, running, jumping
In Depth: Abnormally tall and long-limbed and with a tail that streams far behind him, Stump might have been handsome were it not for the fact that he was born missing his left hind leg. This deformity has done more than mark him since birth—it has defined his life in key ways and shaped him into the veritable dog he is today. He gets about quickly with a practiced bobbing lope, and as he has never known any differently than three legs—he doesn’t appear to have much trouble manuevering about. Understandably, he is not as fast as other foxes, nor is he very skilled at jumping at all. He is a rather poor swimmer and has nearly drowned more than once; his fishing skills are laughable at best. Where he makes up for his natural deficits, however, is fighting. The tod is brutal in a skirmish and makes great use of the fact that he is often underestimated due to his missing limb. He is practiced at fighting from the ground and in a half seated position--and has grown quite the reputation for his skills at whipping about and lashing out at his opponents.
Voice (extra): John Boyega as Bigwig in Watership Down.
PERSONALITY
Positive Traits: Adaptable, Indomitable, Protective.
Negative Traits: Insensitive, Grudging, Shy.
Likes: Basking in the sun, Bird eggs, Enclosed Spaces
Dislikes: Being out in the open for too long, Bodies of water, Angry mother birds
In Depth: 'Determined‘ and ‘Unrelenting’ don’t even begin to cover the half of Stump’s stubborn nature. This is the sort of tod that has done everything he was ever told that he couldn’t do—survive his cubhood, have a successful apprenticeship, become a warrior… the list grows larger with each new moon, it seems. He brings a new meaning to wily and crafty as he constantly finds ways to mitigate the effects of his disability and to turn the tides on those who discredit him or doubt him. On a surface level, he can come across as callous and stubborn—often times even insensitive. After all, if he managed to overcome his hardships, shouldn’t other foxes?
On a deeper level, one would be able to see the lingering sense of insecurity and a rather bruised self-worth underneath his rough exterior. He doesn’t really get any easier to interact with—not yet, anyway—but he becomes easier to understand. To those that have shown him kindness or those that he views as being somewhat vulnerable, Stump is a rather overprotective force of nature, sometimes accidentally dipping into unhealthy possessive tendencies. He works hard to avoid those and mitigate them as they occur.
HISTORY
Born alongside a larger, fully formed brother—Stump was immediately pegged as the reject of the litter. His mother aimed to savage him during the night as a newborn, but another vixen stepped in and took over mothering the unfortunate tod to prevent his cruel demise. This young mother—having lost all but one runt of her own litter—was one of few sources of warmth and kindness in the early moons of Stump’s life. When sickness claimed her shortly before Stump was apprenticed, the young tod withdrew into himself for a time.
As an apprentice, Stump quickly developed a reputation for being particularly tenacious in nature. He never gave up. It didn’t matter how long it took him to complete a task—he would manage to get it done, and it would ultimately be done well. The stress and strain of maintaining such successes has always been rather clearly evident on the young tod; resulting in a perpetual grim frown marring his features and a suspicious glimmer to linger in his eyes.
He earned his warrior name at roughly 16 moons of age while defending the burrows from a stray dog that had wandered far and wide. Positioning himself just inside of one of the tunnels entrances, Stump unleashed a vicious torrent of bites and shrieks when the dog tried to get past him to the younger foxes deeper in the burrows. Ever since, Stump has employed similar tactics on enemy foxes, and has become something of a dreaded presence in a skirmish.
