- caught in the thought of that time when everything was fine -
There was an ache in her paws that would likely linger for a few days yet, but the spark of hope that had ignited a burning ember in her belly was more than enough to keep the silver-streaked vixen up and moving. There was still work to do—there were still foxes to feed. And she had figured out how to do it... that was the most important part. Blinking and looking away from the stockpile of herbs, roots, and nuts she had dug up in the back of the largest den, Dawn drew in a deep, satisfied breath through her nose. We’ll need to gather more nuts, this won’t be enough... she determined, eyes shifting before her tail gave a decisive flick. The lean fox turned about and made her way to the mouth of the cavern of a den—tail lifting behind her as she drew in a breath for her proclomation.
”Foxes of Burrowclan!” Dawn called, her voice melodic and commanding all at once as it echoed throughout the burrows, ”Let every vixen and reynard of Burrowclan join together in The Large Den!” Her ears perked as she listened for the movements and responses of her clanmates within the burrows. A tired grumble here, a curious inquiry there—sets of eyes glimmering in the relative darkness of the dens. Satisfied that they would be a long shortly enough, Dawn turned on her heel and trotted back into the Large Den, making her way to the far reaches of the vertible cavern and making short work of scrabbling up onto a small outcropping that would place her head-and-shoulders above the rest of her clan during the meeting.
As foxes began to filter in, Dawn’s eyes flicked to each one in turn as she dipped her head with what might have been appreciation; at the very least it was an acknowledgement of their loyalty and adherence to her request. ”I’m sure we’ve all taken note of the state of the food stores,” she said, nodding her head over to a shallow dip in the earth where prey was ordinarily kept and stored, ”This winter has been especially hard—I want to thank each and every one of you for continuing to do your duties,” she continued on, jaws remaining parted for a moment as she trained her eyes somewhere in the middle of the throng of foxes gathered before her. ”I know it hasn’t been easy, but I’m proud to call you my clanmates and kin...” giving an affirmative dip of her head to her clanmates, Dawn paused before continuing on with the true purpose of the meeting that she had called.
”I believe I may have a plan to help with our foot shortage,” she said, nodding her head towards Storm that Rolls Across Plains, ”The idea was birthed on a hunt with Storm—our prey is just as hungry as we are,” she said, bright gaze shifting from one face to the next as she tried to detail her plan, ”If we were to gather enough nuts together and set them as an offering... the prey at the Sparse Aspens won’t be able to resist—that's when our hunters will strike.” Dawn finished, going silent for a moment before her grey-flecked tail flicked to the other side.
”I’ll need volunteers—both to gather the bait and to hunt the prey. If you wish to stick to your ordinary duties, I understand and appreciate that as well. Our borders still need to be checked, after all.” shifting on her paws—the outcropping was too thing to sit upon and took a constant effort to remain on it to begin with—Dawn's gaze searched the faces of her clanmates imploringly.
”Is there anyone willing to assist with these additional tasks?” she said.
