Shadow
Lakeclan ♡ Apprentice ♡ 8 Moons ♡ Female ♡ Undetermined
APPEARANCESummary: Small black and gold vixen with yellow eyes
Purchases: N/A
Strengths: Stealth, agility.....still learning
Weaknesses: Fighting, jumping, running
In Depth: Comparitive to a red fox, Shadow is small and slight. She has short legs, a small body and a slightly shorter tail than most. Her build is more lean than muscular, though she’s not all leg like some slighter foxes. Her thick, medium length fur is mostly a speckled black, giving a kind of salt and pepper effect. However, this black is broken up by patches of cream and goldfish tan around her ears, legs and underbelly. Her stance often makes her look even smaller than she is, as she tends to keep herself low and seemingly insignificant, her large ears halfway back, plumed tail tucked close and golden eyes eyes round and wide.PERSONALITYPositive Traits: Quick-thinker, generous, helpful, compassionate, open-minded, supportive
Negative Traits: Timid, passive, avoidant, mistrustful, doubtful, easily overwhelmed
Likes: Humming a few select tunes, wandering alone, stars, gentle rain
Dislikes: Attention, conflict, loud/sudden noises, sudden movements, negative emotions
In Depth: Shadow is a very strange little character, though if you wanted her opinion, you’d never get it, for she never seems to speak. She is a gentle and caring soul with a large, compassionate heart. However, what could have been a sweet, caring, confident young fox seemed to have something broken inside her. Instead she is wary, mistrustful. While she will work for her clan and do her best to be around them and help them, for she is more generous and hard-working than one might think, she also shies away from others and acts very meek and cautious around even her own denmates. She tries her hardest to do things, and she is an intelligent, quick learner. However, while she can preform what she is taught perfectly on her own, often when told to do so before her mentor, she will freeze or back away. Her eyes are often wide with fear or rounded with uncertainty, and its quite often that her tail is tucked and her ears flickering anxiously. It is not that she thinks her clanmates will harm her, but moreso that she is stuck in this meek, fearful disposition that se can’t seem to shake no matter how desperately she tries. If a clanmate is having a nightmare or is grieving, she will try her best to sooth them, even going so close as to touch them. However, the second they move or acknowledge her, she will often dart away again. She was named Shadow for her pelt, though perhaps it is more fitting for the way she hides in them. She will let anyone do what they want, letting everyone trample over her like a crumpled leaf or boss her around like a naughty kit.
When she is alone, however, she seems to act...different. While it is unknown if such holds any truth, the little vixen seems to have a connection with the stars, or perhaps simply an obsession with the,. This, paired with her more antisocial fearful nature tends to have her sleeping outside the den at night, watching the stars. When she thinks she is alone, she may wander, still jumpy and hesitant, but humming a selection of two or three tunes she tends to use interchangeably. Sometimes one may see her practicing the skills she has learnt, and see displayed her true intelligence and capabilities. Yet careful not to snap a twig or suddenly appear, or she may just bolt and not return till the shadows leak across the teritory at nightfall. Sometimes, at night, one will find her lying by the lakeshore, simply staring at the rippling surface. These are the times she is most calm, perhaps almost in a trance, and may well let someone approach and settle beside her if they are quiet and gentle enough in their approach.HISTORYMuch of Shadow’s life, in truth, is a mystery. After all, not only has she never spoken of it, it seems as though she has never spoken at all. Her journey began before her birth, in fact, quite long before it. Her mother and father were Lakeclanners, born and bred. They were loyal, and they loved their home. They had many friends, pleanty of respect, and loving families. Their life was perfect, they were happy. And so, when the two best friends suddenly disappeared, everyone was confused, and immediately though the worst. They’d been last seen by a Fieldclanner, heading toward the Farm...what if they were harmed by the twoleg? It certainly wasn’t beyond possibility. However, what had prompted them to travel their? Sure, the leafbare was terribly harsh and prey was scarcer than ever, but surely they wouldn’t risk it just for a chicken or an egg?
They never would find out the answer. Out of the blue, a Lakeclan patrol stumbled upon Sparrow as they were hunting. She was weak, terribly injured, yet still she reassured the two cowering little kits at her side, before collapsing to the ground, the effort of returning home having taken a huge toll on her. Lakeclan brought her and the kits, who had been terrified of them yet never made a squeak, only following as they refused to leave their mother’s side, back to the camp to be treated. The kits had some injuries, but they were shallow and harmless compared to Sparrow’s grevious wounds. The two siblings lay huddled by their mother’s side as she said her last words, insisting they cared for the kits. As Shadow had watched as her mother took her last breath, she hardly realised the fact that in all her five moons, this was the first time she had heard her own name.
From then on, the kit never spoke. Her small, frail body recovered, but her mind never seemed to. She got friendlier, yet she remained timid and jumpy, and she never spoke a word, only ever relaxed with her sibling. Any who herd the soft, sad whisper of “mother...” now assumed they had imagined it. At seven moons, she became an apprentice, healthy enough to begin learning the ways of her new home. The clan found hope in her perseverance and strength, in the way she seemed to be embracing her new life, thinking that as an apprentice she would grow more and recovere in full through learning and working for the clan. Still, even through her entire first moon, the young vixen still occaisionally shied from her mentor, and didn’t seem to be fitting in or improving too much at all despite her intelligence and careful listening.RELATIONSHIPSMother: Sparrow (deceased)
