The Moonless Twilight
Fieldclan ♡ Leader ♡ 46 Moons ♡ Reynard ♡ Bi-Sexual
APPEARANCESummary: Sleek silver reynard with black eyes
Purchases: N/A
Strengths: Running, Stealth, Agility, Jumping
Weaknesses: Swimming, Fishing, Hunting
In Depth: Twilight is on the larger side, though his rangy and lean figure tend to make it unnoticeable, his posture carrying him closer to the ground as he slinks or prowls along the earth on silent paws, his shoulders rolling low. Sleek fur doesn't make it any easier to judge, appearing fluffy and ruffled with silvery tips but deceiving, thick but shorter then it seems. The whole of his fur save his white snowy tail-tip is black, but along the top side of his pelt from above and around his brow down his ruff to his flanks the tips turn a silvery-grey that catches slightly in the light. Large ears are wide and taper to sharp points, and Twilight is notably long, from his extended muzzle, neck, and tail, to his long nimble legs, and his muscle is all compact and toned, a fox built for quick agile movements. Dark eyes would be hard to pick out from his dark fur if not for their quick movements and the glimmer of sharp cunning there, and across his ears, muzzle, and pelt silvery scars are nearly invisible, few in number and all but impossible to pick out by the casual observer.PERSONALITYPositive Traits: Passionate, Intelligent, Cautious, Curious, Observant, Charismatic, Selfless
Negative Traits: Distant, Melancholy, Unforgiving, Easily Hurt, Snappish, Doesn't Like Asking for Help
Likes: Hide and Seek, Light Flirting, Adventures, Gentle Rain, Training Apprentices, Playing with Clanmates, Meeting other Clans (Peacefully)
Dislikes: Being Stuck Inside, Being Ignored, Bodies of Water, Stubborn Foxes, Arguments
In Depth: Twilight can seem, from an outsider's gaze, a quiet and withdrawn fox. He's friendly and open once someone else engages him in conversation, happy to talk and with a pleasant demeanor and casual way of making acquaintances and friends, but when left in silence, he tends to simply gaze off. There's almost always a slight smile to his lips, but his eyes are usually distant, and while he rarely is ever completely still and seems almost compelled to be moving, or at least flicking his tail when he is still, he seems often to get lost in thought when left with nothing to do. With slinking movements and a graceful stealth and dexterity to him, he flows like a silvery stream when he moves, and his gaze will meet directly in quick amiable greeting only to slide away again just as soon.
But the Twilight that an outsider might now is not necessarily the Twilight that his clan and close ones might now. There is still a touch of dreamy sadness to him, but with his clan Twilight always strives to be diligent. While perhaps he is not as skilled at fishing or hunting as the more fearsome Burrowclan or the hard-working Lakeclan, he is quick, and quiet, and more then willing to work tirelessly day and night to provide for his clanmates. And among them he is a light-hearted vulpine, and while he may always seem to have a bit of distance, a bit of himself that doesn't share his laugh, it doesn't stop him from being passionate and loving. From playing with and training the younger foxes to being there to offer conversation to the older ones, he catches on quickly to things about his fellow foxes and tries to use that to help befriend and motivate them, even if perhaps he is more willing to do work for them then push others off their feet.
In fact, perhaps Twilight's problem is that he is too willing to do what others should be doing. A clever fox, he catches onto things quickly, and knows his Clan is one that is taken to a more easy lifestyle, but it doesn't stop him from hurting when the going gets tough because of it, and this hurt tends to lead him to try harder himself to do things for them. And even when he is in need himself, he tends to avoid mentioning it, focusing on others instead. Gentle words and casual reminders tend to prod at others, and occasionally he finds himself growing short-tempered when his advice or pleas are ignored, but at the end of the day he would rather avoid a fight and simply find another way to problem solve then cause conflict. If there is some silver lining to this, his aversion to conflict leads him to be better perhaps at settling it when it occurs between others, and a keen eye and quick mind often pick out problems and find ways to tackle them in nearly any situation.HISTORYTwilight had been graced with a dark pelt upon his birth, the second of four kits. Whether his name came from his dark pelt that would come to be sparkling with faded silver, or from the time of night in which he came into this world, he isn't sure either way. He knows that before they could even be named one of his siblings was to die, but his siblings and him would all manage to survive their first leaf-bare and be healthy and strong. A big litter to survive at once, it was taken as a good sign of the year to be prosperous, and with new-leaf the prey were bountiful and the hunters able to be lazy with the fresh-kill pile stack full.
Even as a kit though Twilight was a smart one. He didn't bark as much as his siblings, didn't tousle in the dirt and play catch with his fresh-kill, but he was one to snoop around. Poking into the warriors den and sneaking around the leaders quarters, he was always one to be caught where he wasn't supposed to be, stealthy and agile, and every moment he could he was watching the warriors and apprentices. Several times he was caught nearly sneaking clear out of camp, but for all the scolding he received, by the time he was to become an apprentice, he was already skilled in many of the basic techniques and had managed to chat with and get to know most of his clans-mates, easy to get along with and eager to please.
If anything, by the time he became an apprentice, Twilight had already learned tips from many of the other apprentices, and what he didn't know already he quickly picked up. He wasn't very good at hunting and fighting himself, but when it came to knowledge, he seemed to learn and quickly memorize anything, helping his siblings and the other apprentices learn. He had a way, managing to both keep everything he was told and picked up on in his head, and to be able to repeat it in ways others could understand. He was also a tireless worker, he never tired of learning, and if he wasn't great at things, he certainly never gave up trying, time after time again, even when he failed.
If Twilight often acted independent of his mentor and seemed a bit impatient, already knowing almost everything seemingly before his mentor could teach him from picking it up for others, he was open to working hard, and seemed to bring in plenty of his efforts, always seemingly ready to be out on another patrol, always eager to bring in more fresh kill even if it took him all day to manage to get any. Clever, charming, and sociable, he got on well with most of his clanmates, and even had a vixen he fancied as young as his first apprentice moons, older then him by a season but with a beautiful coat mottled brown and rusty orange that glimmered in the sun and a short fluffy tail that waved high behind her when she trotted through the fields.
Twilight had just tenderly started his courting of Birch when he was approached by his mentor and called to a second naming ceremony. He was named Tyro, a surprise to himself but apparently having come at the recommendation of his own mentor for his spirit and keen mind, and one of the leaders had been wanting to find an apprentice. Overjoyed, is humbled and shocked, Twilight took the new name in with dignity, pursuing his new apprentice ship with doubly renewed effort. His courting with Birch was successful, because he was Tyro or for his own personality and quirks he couldn't tell, though he hoped the latter. He loved her deeply, and admired her laugh, her inventive sense of humor, and her unique, if odd, ideas and tricks for hunting. She was more fond of playing with the hunters traps and trying the farmlands then he would have liked, but as much as he fretted over it, her bravery and trickiness was part of what made him admire her.
And for many moons they were happily in love. Twilight's mentor kept a watchful eye, but was happy to let him have his youthful love, and was yet in his prime. It was heart-swelling joy that he received the news one new-leaf that Birch was with kits, and as the moon progressed her eagerly watched her belly start to show. He had never considered being a father before, but he was determined to do his best to be the finest father one could ask for.
Then Birch vanished. The day after she didn't return Twilight searched high and low for his mate, abandoning all his duties to search, in patrol, and on his own. His paws were worn, blistered, and starting to crack when he at last found what happened to her. Caught in a hunter's trap next to the farm, she had been killed, her blood still only a night old on the ground. Grieving, he spent the next few days letting his paws heal and heartbroken.
If Twilight were not a Tyro, were not responsible to his clan to continue, to recover and to be an example and a brilliant clan member, he might have lain about his nest for moons. But he picked himself up, and forcing his tail not to drag, he pricked his ears up again, and tirelessly chased after rabbits and foraged berries. The clan came first. Always. The loss of his mate, and even more, his potential future kits, hurt, and left an emptiness there, but he was young yet. He had a duty he owed, a clan to help provide for, a mentor to serve. His mentor told him he would find love again, and let him have his grief but was quick to push him back to work as soon as his mourning had passed.
Twilight didn't believe them at first. Instead he focused on his apprentice-ship, letting his work tire him until he didn't remember. His mentor taught him to slow down, to take his duties in stride that he did not injure himself and wear himself thin. They taught him how to use his keen eye to learn not only lessons and techniques, but to learn other foxes as well, and to use his tricks to not only tell other foxes how to do things, but how to show them, teach them, and command them. Slowly Twilight grew, and learned, and when his heart was finally reduced to only a subtle ache and his coat fleshed out to a silken fluff, his gaze sharp, mind clever, and paws quick, he was given his full name. The Moonless Twilight. He guessed at the reasoning, hearkening it to his skills in stealth and subtlety, but his mentor would never answer him why they had chosen that, or if it was more then such a strangely specific seeming trait.
Then, many moons later, he began to notice Mist. She had been named the second tyro by the other leader several moons after he had. A younger Vixen, she was white with spots of brown and black and creamy gold that splotched her brilliant and bright coat. She was fast and quick like him, and just as charismatic. Where he was good at surprises, she was good at tousles, where he preferred to learn and teach, she knew how to actually inspire and motivate. She was captivating and moving. And slowly, reluctantly at first, but then quicker as he realized she felt for him as well, Birch long laid to rest in the past, he courted with her. When she came to him asking to be his mate, he was delighted. Finally the last part of his life was complete.
That she was also a tyro and what it might mean for the future was a distant worry, and if Twilight knew that one day they would have to part, he wanted only to enjoy it, and hope that their past bond would make them stronger. He hoped fervently that she might like to have kits with him, their mentors and leaders both still hale and hearty, and his heart full of warmth. When her mentor forced her to be away soon after, he worried after them, hoping they had not been in trouble for their relations, and anxiously willing to defend it until their time of appointment actually came.
Mist finally returned, and Twilight and her clung close together. Their mentors both shared their disapproval, knowing that the love was foolish should either have to pass and make them leaders, and wanted only to end it now before it caused problems. They resisted, and for a time their love continued. Then, Twilight's mentor died, and he took their place, leaving Mist still a tyro, but the threat of them both being leaders all that more possible and looming. In private Mist's mentor would come to bring up her kit. The kit she had given birth to while she had been away, after she had become his mate. At first, despairing it had been his, finally his own kit, he had questioned why, confused and angry that it had been sent away when it was Fieldclan still and strong, born of tyros or not. Then he had realized the timing of them being mates and the time she had been away were too close together. And he understood, even if he didn't know the full story behind the kit, where it had gone, whose it was, or whether Mist had come to him in actual love or just for a cover.
Distant and sorrowed, Twilight would finally let their love dissolve and split, distancing himself from Mist and turning inward. He focused on his new duties and the clan instead, and while he was happy for her when her mentor stepped down and she at last took her own title as leader, he was left longing, wondering if any vixen might truly be his, or if he should not turn his duty solely towards his clan and forget such silly kit-like pursuits as love. To those watching over him and looking down in the Council to those expecting from him and looking up to him in his clan. His life was not his own, but rather theirs, and he was more then happy to throw himself into his work again, learning his lesson of grief from Birch but feeling a renewed sting all the same that would take time to fade, even as moons and seasons brought wisdom, temperance, and distracted him with business of other clans and the intricate goings on of keeping his own hale and strong, from the kits to the elders.RELATIONSHIPSMother: Dapple (Deceased)
