STAG The large red reynard found himself wandering aimlessly through Lakeclan territory. He didn't have it in him to stay put in the camp all day. Lately he felt as if he had been doing too much of that, and his naturally restless soul was needing to wander. His heart ached for the water, and his brain was happy to oblige. Long legs quickly pulled him closer to his destination. As they approached the end of leaf-bare, warmer weather was beginning to thaw some of the ice and allowed for the possibility of fishing. But fishing wasn't in this tod's train of thought. He simply wished for his paws to touch the water. They ached to feel the icy cold of the blue liquid. He longed to swim and play as the hot green-leaf sun set slowly. And while those days neared, they were still quite a ways away.
Approaching a large lazy pool of water, Stag found himself met with ice. A grimace tugged at his maw as his amber eyes rolled in frustration. So much for touching the water...but he couldn't give up. It wasn't in his nature to do such a thing. Slowly he approached, delighted to find that as he neared, the earth began to gain almost a muddy texture. Lowering his nose to the ground, he pressed at the ice, a smile spreading clear to his ears as it gave way and the icy liquid met his body.
Clearly proud of his small but mighty victory, he lifted his head high before letting his front paws settle ever so softly into the water. "How I have missed you dear friend..." His words were followed by a soft laugh as he closed his eyes pleasantly. This was what he needed, this time with mother nature.

Feather that drifts on wind Warrior of Lakeclan
Caw was angry. Though then again, whenever was he not angry? Feather honestly couldn’t blame Raven for being scared of him, she knew she was once, too. That was, until she seemingly forgot how to be scared. Still, part of her, buried deep below the cool surface that showed in her expressionless face, almost pitied him. It felt strange and wrong, yet she did. He’d once been so loving, and once their mother had left, he’d tried so hard....he’d tried too hard. He’d already achieved respect for his remaining kits, yet his harshness toward even them only dug him a deeper hole. The respect he’d earned for himself still came with many questions, and he wanted more.It was a shame he though his daughter was the best way of achieving that. Since her father’s command, Feather hadn’t spoken to Stag beyond whatever orders she was given, the reports she made from patrols, or whenever she offered to help. It wasn’t any different than it used to be, other than the fact that she couldn’t help but avoid his gaze, too, where she used to meet it calmly with a smooth nod of respect or greeting. It felt wrong, knowing she would obey her father. It counted as using the Reynard, she supposed, and he was her leader. Didn’t that count as disloyalty? Still, part of her resented the male, too. Why did he have to catch her father’s eye? Make himself out as the perfect fox for Caw to force her toward. No, it wasn’t his fault. Besides, it wasn’t exactly her fault either. Was it? The small, fresh scratch along her muzzle had made it all too clear that her father wasn’t changing his mind, and that he was getting impatient. He knew his daughter was avoiding whom she ought to pursue. So, reluctantly, Feather found herself following her leader’s scent trail. Not that she needed to. She observed her clan mates well enough to know many of their favourite places, and she’d taken care to observe her leader well. If he wasn’t at the lake, he was sure to be at the river. “Looks like it missed you too,” the grey-brown vixen observed as she approached the red furred male, nodding toward the pool he stood in. Thin cracks were webbing through the ice from where he’d broken through, reaching out across the pool, as though attempting to call the leader deeper. Many moons of acting brought a subtle sway to her tail, not wanting to seem too pleased to see her leader, but aiming to soften him toward her all the same. This was entirely ridiculous. Tag: Jelly

STAG The voice would have caught him off guard, but her pawsteps had given him a gentle warning of her approach. She hadn't been trying to sneak up on him, and that much he was grateful for. Too often these days he found himself being approached quietly and not always for the right reasons. After becoming one of the Leaders, others began looking at him differently. No longer was he just another reynard in the clan, but he was one who mattered. He was one of status, one who could help another out in ways that the simple warrior could not. He had strings to pull and looks to give...but perhaps Feather would treat him normally. Perhaps she could see past his leadership. Perhaps she could just let him be a normal fox.
Hearing her words, a soft smirk couldn't help but placing itself upon his maw. He was too playful to not appreciate them. The gears in his mind began to turn, Mr Flirt Master was going to find a way into the conversation. Turning his head to catch her gaze, his eyes lit up playfully. "You know, I'm pretty hard not to miss. Many seem to miss me even if they see me daily. Must be some sort of curse or something."
He didn't know much about Feather. Only that much of her family had left, and her father didn't seem like he was perhaps the most amazing tod in the world. But he stayed out of the drama where he could. He had enough to deal with, and there always seemed to be more around the corner. "Come....sit. There's plenty of room and the water has begun to warm." His tail beckoned her to him as a paw reached out to push more ice away.

Feather that drifts on wind Warrior of Lakeclan
The second he turned his head, his gaze caught her own with ease. For a moment, her own gaze found itself skittering away again, a habit she’d formed since her father’s order. However, she internally scolded herself the second her eyes drifted, and she drew them back to meet his gaze and hold it. She willed her eyes to soften, for the ice they often held to melt as she took in the warmth of his own bright and playful gaze. She’d seen that look before, and often it was followed by a flirtatious quip to some fawning vixen or another. At his comment, Feather wasn’t sure whether to snort or roll her eyes in response. However, she refrained from both, though she couldn’t stop the subtle raise of her brow as she eyed him. “Not a curse you seem all too against,” she responded smoothly, some amusement coloring her tone, of which she wasn’t sure whether it was fake or real. At his invitation, she prompted herself to draw closer, picking toward the bank and drawing close to his side. She didn’t allow their sides to touch, but she could feel his warmth. As though to combat that, or drawn her mind away from the existence of his warmth, she let her paws slip into the icy water. He was wrong, of course. It was freezing. However, the vixen didn’t even flinch as she stood there for a moment, considering what her next step ought to be. She didn’t talk much, in fact, she tended to just keep to herself. She wasn’t used to being the root of a conversation. What could she possibly say next? She had to at least give this a go. Otherwise, next time she might get more than a slightly bleeding scratch. “So what brings you here, other than missing the water?” she finally asked, turning her gaze toward the reynard at her side. Part of her wanted to shift away, to put some more distance between them. However, she stayed put, keeping her paws firmly rooted. This time, though, she didn’t quite meet his gaze, and soon let her eyes drift back toward the slowly splintering ice before them. Tag: Jelly

STAG
It was different to find a moment that he and another shared privately. Or a moment that he had alone. Anymore all he lived his life in were groups of foxes. The only fox he seemed to have much one on one time with was Ripple and that was simply due to them sharing Leader duties. For Council's sake they slept right across from each other. He had to soak in this time and hope that nobody else strolled along. That nobody else had seen Feather head out and decided to follow. That nobody needed his advice or a patrol started. And as he began to lose himself deep in thoughts and his own mind, her voice pulled him out of the abyss.
"I suppose you're right. But I enjoy the company of a select few. Sometimes its nice to be missed." A twinkle was in his eyes as he watched her side up next to him. The physical separation was noticeable, though he didn't mind it in this moment. As much as he appreciated and enjoyed flirting, a secret he seemed to hold was that he couldn't allow many close. Truthfully his heart could only ever belong to one other...but she had not been found yet. So he continued to flirt. It was harmless in his books. His heart wasn't deeply connected to it. He found it to be just his preferred manner of communication despite what others saw.
Her words caught him off guard. He has been too deep in thought once more. It wasn't like him to sit and think, but perhaps the stress of leadership was getting to him. This was to be his unwind and decompress time. "If you must know..." his voice lowered to a whisper as he looked about almost secretively, "I'm not entirely certain." Stag gave a brief laugh, finding humor in his own words. He swished a paw about in the water aimlessly. "I think I wandered here to just get away for a moment. To find peace....but what about yourself? Why does a pretty vixen drag herself out here all alone?" He was quick to change the focus, letting a smooth one-liner follow suite.

Feather that drifts on wind Warrior of Lakeclan
The male seemed...distant, not quite entirely there. Every time she spoke it was like she drew him from some place...and she didn't know where. Maybe this reynard was deeper than she'd thought, a puzzle to figure out. She supposed she had no choice but to at least try. Yet still, that same spark returned to his eyes as he glanced at her, perhaps considering whatever boyish response he may give next. Nice to be missed....she supposed in a way it made sense, though in truth she didn't really understand it. Instead, she simply rolled her shoulders in a faint shrug, even as she nodded in consideration. "I'm not sure I'd want to be missed..." she admitted, knowing it best to let him in at least a little. It wasn't like she was terribly ashamed of her opinions. "It does not sound so great for the other party, and those I know that could miss me...." Feather shook her head, realizing she'd gotten carried away. She didn't want to discuss her father, or what his version of missing her might mean. It was best when her father just knew where to find her. She didn't want to think of what situations may lead to her remaining littermate missing her. Feather couldn't help the wary flick of her ear as he lowered his voice to a whisper, glancing around as though worried he would be overheard. However, his whispered explanation was echoed by a laugh, and she could help a faint snort of amusement as one forepaw stirred the water. This guy was truly an idiot. Stag's compliment earned another raised brow, before she cast her gaze back to the water. "I suppose I just wanted to get away, too." She said it in good humor, her tone light, but perhaps there was a distance to her gaze as she peered at her reflection. All she could seem to see for a moment was her father. Would that scratch become a scar, like the one her father bore, reminding them at every glance of the day mother left? Suddenly all too aware of that possibility, she shifted her wait to look at him in full, sending ripples through the water. "I hate to be a bother during your little get away...but would you mind taking a look at this? her head tilted to show the fresh scratch along her muzzle. At least she had a good excuse than not wanting a scar to make her look more like her father - infection was not a risk one wanted to take in Leafbare. Tag: Jelly

At her words his head quickly snapped in her direction. Not want to be missed? It was an odd concept. Being missed meant somebody cared about you. It meant you were loved and needed. He wanted to quickly break her words with a comforting gesture but held it back. More words followed and he couldn't help but let his head tilt in a questioning manner. "I...would miss you if you were gone suddenly. In a good manner....and I wouldn't be bothered by it one bit." He tried to soften the mood with a light smile. He needed her to smile. Some sort of cloud hung above her in this moment, though why he wasn't sure.
But she was amused, at least with part of him. And even if he came off silly at least she was amused for that brief second. At least he could bring some sunshine to her day, even if it was only for a brief second. That's how he had to live these days. Not only keeping himself afloat and happy, but keeping the rest of the clan that way. And while it was work, and some days just utterly exhausting, the end result would always be worth it.
Suddenly the conversation was changing to a completely new topic. And as he listened, his eyes took in the scratch. A questioning look crossed his face as he studied it. While it wasn't the worst he had seen, a fox should never leave a wound unattended. He nodded his head in acknowledgement to the list of herbs that began to compile in his brain. While herbs and treating others wasn't his favorite things in the entire world, it was still a duty he had to oversee.
"Now I'm curious. What was close enough and swift enough to give you that scratch?" The question was almost more to himself than directly shot at Feather. But it slipped quietly into the air, hanging there almost awkwardly. "No matter. We'll get it taken care of. It's not too deep and should heal rather easily. I'm not sure what's out and about in these areas with it being Leafbare, but there's plenty of herbs in the den. Now or later is completely your choice my dear." A flash of his signature smile and a wink of one amber eye was all it took for him to feel confident in his assessment.

Feather that drifts on wind Warrior of Lakeclan
Despite herself, Feather couldn't help the way her eyes widened in response to the tom's words, as caught of guard as he had been by her. Of course, she decided reasonably he meant he'd miss a clanmate, just as he would anyone else. She was nothing special to him, surely, and that thought strangely made her feel better. For while she regarded him with a grateful expression and something kn her warmed at his admittance, another part of her had squirmed uncomfortably. Would he feel the same, if he knew why she was really here? Casting her thoughts aside, Feather held herself still as he scrutinised the cut. The question he left hanging in the air remained just that, a lingering question. Would he believe it were a thorn? A cat, even? Fortunately, before she could make up some excuse that may or may not dig herself a deeper hole, he decided it didn't matter and began speaking again about treating it. Sitting back, Feather was half tempted to role her eyes at his wink. It felt kind of...wrong, but she knew that this was just Stag being...well, himself, really. Instead, she decided to indulge his in a gentle smile that didn't feel real enough to her but didn't feel as fake as she expected it to, and gave a soft shake of her head. "Later is fine," she offered calmly. She'd sought his treatment for foolish reasons anyway, and she felt assured at least knowing it would heal well and he didn't seem worried about putting it off. "You should get to enjoy what little down time you get, right? I'd hate to drag you from the water you missed so much."Her time was light, but talking so much and offering even the slightest smiles or sways of her tail felt... strange to Feather. Tag: Jelly

STAG
This moment was beginning to almost feel strange. Which was strange all in itself to think. Stag didn't do strange. Strange wasn't in his vocabulary. Rarely did things become strange. But this dance they seemed to be doing, it felt forced. And odd. And perhaps he was just beginning to read into things due to the stress that clouded his mind, but he felt like something was just off. And the more he thought about it, the more he was ready to bring it up and out into the open.
But then she smiled. And some part of his caved and gave way to a serenity that he was needing. The sun seemed to break through the clouds of stress and pent up emotions. Somehow, that smile was enough to bring him up and out of the storm that was beginning to brew. It was enough to clear his mind and draw him from the dark depths of needing alone time. Happiness of others had always been important to him. But that smile, he felt as if he hadn't seen Feather smile before...and for her to smile in front of him, well he felt honored.
"For you I'd give up the downtime." He smiled reassuringly, before splashing a bit of water up onto the ice before them. "When the air warms, and the water is just right...we'll have to return here. To take me from the water now, well you'd almost be doing me a favor. At this rate I'd be sitting here until my paws froze off. At least with you I'd be enjoying another's company." He smiled lightly, letting his tail brush her body lightly before standing.
"Well the way I see it we have a couple of options. You can help me gather whatever herbs I can find now, or we head to camp and get it going....vixen's choice." Ending with another infamous wink, the tod let his eyes settle on her.

Feather that drifts on wind Warrior of Lakeclan
His words echoed through her mind, and she imagined the swoons he’d get from that. Was she even capable of feeling that way? His comment was just that. She didn’t feel any effect on her from it, other than the slight discomfort that he was comfortably smiling and flirting with her and she was just toying with him at her father’s behest. She felt dirty and wrong, but it had to be done. Besides...it wasn’t like she was doing him any wrong. If anything, she was just...giving him someone to chat with, he seemed to like that. She just hated the idea that if he ever felt anything toward her...she’d have to lie about feeling the same. ‘What is wrong with you?’ she silently asked her reflection, but the image she was picturing as her father didn’t respond, didn’t explain the decisions he made or the situations he put her in, the daughter he claimed to love. She hoped the cut would definitely heal, it was the only think that set the image of her and him apart. The touch of his tail effectively drew her from her thoughts, and despite herself, the vixen flinched at the contact. However, she forced herself to relax with all her will, feigning the flinch as surprise of the touch so suddenly drawing her from her thoughts. She wasn’t sure how to respond with the insistence of coming when the seasons warmed, but he gave her an escape, already moving on the conversation as he stood. With the tail drawn away, she stood as well, feeling more relaxed in truth this time, even as his gaze settled on her. Being watched had never truly deterred her, she never cared much for that. His gaze was hard to meet because of her father and her own guilt and resentment. Normally, she would have met it without hesitation. Now she wasn’t so certain. Still, she forced herself to show another small smile, faint enough for someone who didn’t smile much, but present enough at least to notice. She hoped. “I’m happy to help you collect your herbs, if that is what you’d prefer,” she offered lightly, a soft, subtle sway of her tail following her words. “After all, why return to camp so soon?”Tag: Jelly

The flinch caught him off guard...until he remembered the smile she had given him moments ago. Perhaps it was just surprise....a lovely thought that stuck in his mind. If he only knew the circumstances. He would feel naive, and well..just outright dumb. And while he wasn't the smartest fox in the entire clan, he certainly wasn't the one that everybody pointed and laughed at. But this, this entire ordeal would take the cake if he knew. And yet he remained oblivious, and quite happily at that.
As she stood in an almost kitlike smile spread ear to ear. It was easy to see he was excited for another to follow him on this little escapade. Herbs had never been exactly fun in his books, so perhaps another would enjoy it. Or better yet, share his mild hatred for the task. "So...we're looking for a few different ones...though with it being leafbare most have been stock piled into the den. " He paused, taking in a deep breath. "In other words, most likely we'll end up going back to the den BUT for now we can try. Always try." There was his infamous optimism. The try and try again motto would be how he lived out the rest of his life.
Taking a few steps away from her he motioned with his head for her to follow. "So there's chervil, or marigold, OR garlic. But most commonly found and used is Yarrow." He nodded his head, almost approving of his own words. At least he retained the information, or perhaps it was just easily reachable when some part of him was attempting to show off. "Except I don't know if you know what any of those look like..." he turned towards her questioningly, almost hoping she did.

Feather that drifts on wind Warrior of Lakeclan
If he noticed the flinch, she couldn’t tell. At the very least he had the decency to pretend not to notice, though with that kitlike grin of his, she wasn’t so sure he was pretending. Likely, he was just happily oblivious, and for once, she was glad of that. Normally she’d rather others weren’t oblivious, but when it came to her troubles or the weaknesses in herself....well, she’d much rather no one noticed at all. She didn’t need them pitying her and asking stupid questions, anyway. It would seem, most likely, this little escapade would be fruitless. Or, well, that seemed to be what he was implying, despite his bright and bubbling optimism that seemed to roll off him in waves displayed through childish grins and flirtations. Feather simply nodded thoughtfully, before raising her chin. “Well, its never any harm to try,” she agreed, aiming to keep her tone lighter and friendlier than it normally would be. “If we don’t find herbs we could always see if we run into any prey instead.”As Stag began to move, Feather fell into step beside him, ears twitching as he began to list off some herbs. She wasn’t really all to familiar with that kind of stuff, she just focused of her warrior duties, on hunting and apprentices. She’d never really had time for picking flowers before, and while she understood the necessity for having a healer, it didn’t feel too practical a way to spend her time. Still, it was her father’s insistence she court the leader, and undoubtedly, this was one of the best places to begin. Not that she was overly comfortable with the idea, or where it might lead. Was she even suitable for a mate? His gaze was almost hopeful as he glanced toward her. Still, she wasn’t going to pretend, or sugar coat anything. That would be more pointless than wandering home empty pawed after this journey. “Afraid not,” she said. However, she willed herself another smile, this time perhaps a little bit more playful as she swayed her tail softly. It felt wholly unnatural, and her skin crawled slightly at even the hint of what could be deemed flirtation. Or something, at least, that wasn’t her. “Though you seem perfectly knowledgable for the both of us, why don’t you describe them to me?”At least he seemed to like showing off, right? Tag: Jelly
